- Multiple areas and levels and several bar areas.
I enjoyed this place! The service was good and the fish was fresh! They had a live band playing and I could imagine that on a Friday or Saturday night the place could be pretty lively! Worth checking out of you are in the area!! We were visiting another couple and they suggested we go to Old Key Lime House. There was a little bit of a wait when we got there but we were seated pretty quickly. Our server was very friendly and on point. She took very good care of us. Two of us ordered the clam chowder as an appetizer. Flavor and taste was good. However, I like my clam chowder with a good mix of clam and potato and very creamy. Theirs in my opinion is overloaded with potatoes and really a gravy thickness rather than creamy. Again just not my preferred method for clam chowder. Two of us ordered grouper sandwiches, I ordered fried shrimp, and I can't remember the other. Everyone's food was good. Fried shrimp was very good. Not too much breading which is usually the case. It does not look like it but the place is fairly large. Multiple areas and levels and several bar areas. Nice setting being right on the water. All in all a good spot and we would go back if in the area. Was supposed to be a family get together to celebrate an anniversary. A few family members suggested that they have had great food there. We all decided to go. The building is beautiful and view is great. The evening started ok until we received our drink order. Those were replaced with different drinks and were satisfactory. We all then ordered our appetizers. Two of us had the lobster bisque. The flavor was good but it was like the lobster was ground up. There was very little evidence of lobster. No texture at all. The others were satisfied with theirs. We then ordered our main course. The mahi-mahi was way over cooked, it should be firm but flaky. Ours were rubbery and not flaky. They were gone in two bites and it is a shame because they were very good. The menu description is deceiving. The other meals were not great but acceptable. The two meals were so disappointing that we called the owner or manager to our table and expressed our concerns. He was not very pleasant and was defensive. He did deducted two Mahi-Mahi meals that were not eaten except for the crab balls. We never ask for anything to be removed except for the Mahi-Mahi meals which were returned. The other meals and appetizers were eaten and paid for without question. The Manager did also on his own comp two drinks for our trouble. We left and went somewhere else had good appetizers and drinks. Too bad for the Key Lime House. Two of the members in our group are real estate brokers and frequently meet clients at restaurants. They said they may think twice before taking clients there. Maybe this was just an off night and not typical of this restaurant. They have many great reviews. This was a special night for our group and we really were disappointed. Everyone in the area recommended this restaurant so we tried it on our last day. It was so dirty! We asked for a recommendation and the waitress didn't seem to really know what was good. We had the Wayne-O sandwich, I can not begin to tell you how bad that is. I thought this sounds like an interesting combination, NOT! It had a bitter taste and the salmon wasn't fresh. Neither my husband nor I ate more than a quarter of the sandwich. The waitress didn't care that we weren't satisfied. Almost as if they get so many tourist it didn't matter. Decided to try this place despite the bad review from a couple days previous. We were glad we did. It was busy and the parking lot was small so we parked a block away at the kayak park metered parking. We waited about 25 minutes on a Friday night which was not bad. We had something to drink while we waited. This place is bigger than it looks from the outside and is on the intercoastal waterway. We asked for near the water seating and were accommodated. The food was tasty. Our server Nicole was great! Most of the other reviews were good. We love eating fresh seafood out by the water. On my own for good food, drinks and ocean view. Intimate and right on the water. Per Joey- had the grilled avocado and Mahi tuna tacos and both fabulous! Highly recommend both in this funky- fun filled but highly enjoyable atmosphere. We use swai in our fish and chips because it is the perfect fish for that purpose, please research the origin and purpose of fish and chips so you at least somewhat know what your talking about. Swai is a farm raised white fish closely related to the catfish. We did experiment with, haddock, cod, pollock, and skate. The Swai was far superior to all of them for having a lightly crunchy crust and beautifully tender and delicious on the inside. We use premium alcohol in our drinks and we pour 1. Fish Dip is smoked weekly in house and has no MSG. We hope you find happiness in your life someday.
